Footprints stands as Sheffield's premier jazz platform, orchestrating events from festivals to intimate jam sessions across the city. The organisation has served as both incubator and launch pad for local talent while attracting cutting-edge international artists, bringing metropolitan energy to the Steel City.

They approached me to create their advertising materials, seeking the same improvisational spirit I employed in my work with Fuji Speedway. Through collaborative discussion, we developed a flexible format adaptable to all their events, regardless of scale, budget, or venue.

The visual system consists of three core elements: a badge-style icon, an adaptable text-based logotype, and a structured poster layout. This layout acts as scaffolding for improvised elements - as with musical score awaiting interpretation, it provides a consistent framework where free-drawn animations and illustrations can flow naturally. Like a musical key or scale, this foundation allows for creative exploration while maintaining brand coherence.

The resulting identity bridges nostalgia and innovation, creating a robust brand presence that has proven consistently effective since its implementation. This project demonstrates how structured design systems can support creative improvisation - a perfect translation of jazz principles into visual language.
